Job Description

Role Overview

CarGurus is seeking an Analyst to join the Business Analytics & Reporting team. The Business Analytics & Reporting team is responsible for the analytical rigor behind reporting, forecasting, and financial modeling that enable day-to-day and strategic decisions. The ideal candidate is intuitively curious in uncovering how tiny nuances or decisions can have a dramatic impact in our data storytelling, a logical thinker who excels at complex problem-solving, and able to synthesize insights from disparate data sources into proposed clear, logical, and motivating actions.

You will have opportunities for outsized positive impact. You’ll work cross-functionally with many departments, gain exposure to multiple dimensions of the business, and be the key contributor for a wide variety of stakeholders, inclusive of our senior leadership.

What you'll do

  • Conduct guided exploratory data analysis across disparate data sources to understand the performance of our business strategy and identify potential business opportunities and/or risks for mitigation.
  • Be an active contributor in discussions with decision-makers, driving to understand the underlying business motivations behind business questions and presenting the resulting findings.
  • Partner, share, and present data findings with stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Collaborate cross departmentally by using data to identify, validate, and uncover drivers of our key performance indicators; implement new metrics to evaluate business performance and/or experiments; build reports and dashboards to monitor and understand them.
  • Be a voice and advocate to use data to improve the quality of our decision making.

What you'll bring

  • BS or BA degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, analytics, economics, or equivalent analytical work experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a business environment focused on analysis and reporting, including data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI), influencing business decisions.
  • Ability to understand and present new data-driven approaches and their relevance to shared business goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using hypothesis-driven analysis to address business questions.
  • Fluent in SQL and Excel.
  • Some experience with data modeling and ETL concepts.
  • Proficient at working with data ambiguity to derive meaningful insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects effectively, set expectations with partners, and complete projects on time.
  • Experience in SaaS and/or B2B businesses is a plus.
