As a SUI Underwriting Assistant, you’ll play a key role in helping our Senior Underwriters and SUI Rate Manager understand, maintain and execute operations specific to the ins and outs of our prospects' businesses. Your evaluations will be crucial in assessing SUI insurance risks, making you a vital part of our growing team at Justworks. Plus, you’ll work closely with our sales, worker’s compensation, registration and onboarding team to ensure a seamless process from application to implementation.

What You Will Work On

  • Analyze business operations, financial statements, and other relevant data to understand the risk levels of our clients. Your knowledge of state unemployment insurance regulations will be key for success.
  • Execute on strategies, guidelines, and policies to ensure in accordance with the Manger, SUI Rate Operations to ensure accurate pricing and customer placement. Your expertise will help navigate state-specific SUI regulations and optimize our offerings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Sales Enablement, Tax Filing and Reporting, Customer Onboarding, Technology, Legal, Customer Success Organization, and Finance—to execute on customer implementation. Your focus will drive compliance, strategic advantage, and sustainable growth across the entire company.
  • Make informed decisions based on thorough analysis and established guidelines. You'll evaluate state-specific SUI rules and their impact on client risk profiles, ensuring beneficial outcomes.
  • Proper record keeping of your underwriting work, including risk assessments, pricing justifications, and coverage recommendations. Ensure all documentation is accurate and reflects current SUI regulations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather information, clarify details, and explain underwriting decisions. Your ability to explain how state-specific SUI regulations affect our decisions will be essential.
  • Ensure our underwriting practices comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. Stay informed about state SUI regulations to maintain compliance and advise best practices.
  • Keep up with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to continuously improve our underwriting practices and policies. Your commitment to learning about state-specific SUI regulations will drive innovation in our underwriting practices.
  • Maintain strong relationships with state unemployment insurance agencies, vendors, and various professional organizations.

Qualifications

------------------

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in underwriting or a related field.
  • Knowledge of PEO and SUI preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or ServiceNow is a plus.
  • Quick learner who can apply new concepts effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, able to create, manipulate, and analyze complex spreadsheets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for problem-solving and helping others.
  • Excited about working in an entrepreneurial environment and contributing to meaningful projects

 

The hourly range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $28.85 - $31.74.
