Role overview

The Engagement team at CarGurus is looking for a skilled front-end engineer to help mentor others and drive exciting projects in the automotive and communications space. We are looking for a front end expert with full stack chops, who  will act as the lead front end engineer and play a huge part in helping transform the way CarGurus communicates with its users and help increase site stickiness. This includes SMS, Push, Email and on site experiences.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with fellow engineers, designers, product managers, and data analysts to take an idea from concept to technical design to implementation to testing to measurement.
  • Pitch in wherever there will be the greatest impact. This could be anything from implementing a new full consumer facing feature, to integrating with a key partner or technology, to a quick vapor or A/B test to help determine what’s next.
  • Be deeply engaged in the full development lifecycle designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, monitoring and improving software.
  • Advocate for new technology and new methodologies
  • Continuously learn and expand your capabilities
  • Have fun!

What you'll bring

  • Expert understanding of modern JavaScript and ES6 concepts, ideally in fast paced environments
  • Good understanding of full stack development so you can pitch in on backend focused Java tasks too
  • Excel at developing well-structured, performant web applications using modern a JavaScript framework like React, Remix and and other front end technologies
  • Experience with email/sms/push notifications a plus
  • Experience with CSS and HTML5
  • Passionate about building a great UI/UX experience through continuous improvements and testing (E2E and unit tests)
  • Experience developing large-scale application software
  • A solid understanding of data structures
  • Have the ability to iterate and ship ideas quickly, with loose direction
  • You’re a skilled communicator with a collaborative spirit
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience needed
