Our mission is to make it so everyone codes.

A world where everyone, not just ~0.1% of the world population, codes will see faster and more broadly beneficial technological progress.

But coding is already too complex for most people to start coding, and it’s only getting worse as consumers demand more from software and code piles up. We’re making it less complex. That will make more people able to code.

Everything we do is ultimately for devs (anyone who codes). Every dollar we earn comes from devs trying, using, loving, fighting for, and sharing our product. All Sourcegraph teammates code to better understand our users and customers and to do their job better (in ways that make sense for their role). Our long-term mission is to make it so everyone codes, not just the 0.1% of the world’s population who are devs—just like universal literacy.

High agency

If all Sourcegraph teammates, except for one, got stranded on a desert island without internet access for a month, we know that person would figure out how to keep Sourcegraph running and serving our customers. We are self-motivated. Everyone here has a high degree of autonomy and freedom, which requires hard work, responsibility, initiative, fast iteration, and optimism in the face of challenges. We think and act like owners of our work and hold each other accountable to do the same so we can do the best work of our lives.

In addition to on-the-job training, we offer a $1,000 yearly reimbursement for educational opportunities (such as courses, extended education, books, conferences, etc.). We also hold detailed, twice annual 360 degree Impact review cycles for all teammates.

Parental Leave and Caretaking

We value and support teammates at all stages of life. We ensure that all teammates are afforded at least 16 weeks of paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child (Sourcegraph will bridge any gap of unpaid parental leave, so coverage details vary by location), and a reimbursement of up to $25,000 USD for family planning, building, and support services through Maven and Maven wallet. Receipts for any expense over $25 are required. Family planning services apply to all teammates, their spouse, and/or domestic partner.
