Hi, Iʼm Maria Diaz, Recruiter at Customer.io. Our People team is looking for a proactive, thoughtful, and self-starting People Specialist to join us.

This is a unique opportunity for someone early in their People career who’s hungry to grow. You’ll take ownership of our global onboarding program, contribute across the full employee lifecycle, and help shape a people experience that’s human, scalable, and values-driven.

You’ll work closely with our People and Culture Manager as well as teammates across People Ops, IT, and Learning & Development to deliver programs that support a thriving remote culture. This role offers a structured core with flexible scope—you’ll have clear ownership of key responsibilities, along with the opportunity to explore projects in areas like engagement programs, recognition, or internal communications.

What You'll Do

Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle

  • Own and continuously improve our global onboarding program from offer acceptance through the first weeks, partnering closely with our Director of Learning, Growth, and Development.
  • Use feedback and survey data to streamline onboarding in our remote environment—helping new hires feel informed, included, and excited.
  • Maintain and organize onboarding content (we use Notion), making sure information is accessible and up to date.

People Ops & HR Generalist Support

  • Support day-to-day People Operations needs across the employee lifecycle—from onboarding to offboarding.
  • Respond to employee questions and requests related to policies, benefits, and internal resources.
  • Assist with maintaining employee data and systems (HRIS), ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Culture, Engagement & Programs

  • Contribute to company-wide employee experience programs, such as recognition, wellness, and virtual events.
  • Support People team projects that align with Customer.io’s priorities—whether that’s strengthening culture, advancing DEI efforts, partnering with vendors on team events and travel, or streamlining internal processes.

Data & Documentation

  • Help analyze and summarize survey data to identify patterns, track progress, and inform decision-making.
  • Ensure documentation is clean, current, and easy to navigate—especially in tools like Notion or other knowledge systems.

Who You Are

  • 1–2 years of experience in People Ops, HR, or a similar function
  • Strong attention to detail and a knack for organizing messy information
  • self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and takes initiative without waiting for a checklist
  • Curious and growth-minded—you ask questions, seek feedback, and enjoy learning new tools or processes
  • Proactive communicator who keeps teammates informed and surfaces blockers early
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally and asynchronously in a distributed team

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Experience using Notion to manage documentation or onboarding content
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems like BambooHR, HiBob, or similar
  • Exposure to employee engagement programs or survey tools (e.g., Culture Amp, Lattice)
